In March, while in Denver, we were fortunate enough to see the German artist Rupprecht Matthies’ exhibit at the Denver Art Museum. According to the information from the DAM, Rupprecht Matthies is “fascinated by the common experiences that forge social groups. He utilizes words—the basic building blocks of human language—to convey ideas about the collective experiences of various communities.”
To prepare for this installation, Matthies met in Denver with recent immigrants from around the world. The installation reflects the immigrants’ stories and the importance of their words.
I love words. This was one day I was actually allowed to hug them.
