It’s early morning and I’m furiously typing.
As a mom, I’m trying to strike a balance.
So for many mornings, I try to get up before my crowds to re-ignite my creativity. Or to get ahead on an on-going project. Just like with my children, I need to set my own boundaries. No checking email when I’m trying to write my fiction. No tackling other projects in an attempt to procrastinate. Some weeks it feels as if we are all just spinning our wheels. Other weeks, I’ve accomplished a mountain of work and school and am looking around for more to conquer.
So, where does balance come from?
For me, it comes from being able to step back each morning and survey my playing field. If I wasn’t able to, I would probably fall into a rabbit hole. Or so it feels sometimes.
The family is stirring…and the day is off and running. Happy Monday!
A year or so ago, my family won a prize package that included rainy-day activities. We were thrilled but laughed as we found a free family pass for bowling. Us? Family of 5 with the youngest 3-years-old? Yeah, right! Fortunately, my husband’s colleague wanted to bowl, so we made it a [...]
A year or so ago, my family won a prize package that included rainy-day activities. We were thrilled but laughed as we found a free family pass for bowling. Us? Family of 5 with the youngest 3-years-old? Yeah, right! Fortunately, my husband’s colleague wanted to bowl, so we made it a two-family outing.
I should have eaten my words…or laughter. Bowling was a blast.
So, through my affiliation with One2One, I learned about AMF’s Summer Unplugged bowling deal for kids this summer taking place at over 250 bowling facilities in the U.S.
How it works is at select AMF centers, for the Summer Unplugged program, kids 15 years and under can bowl two free games per day (shoe rental not included).
All you need to do is to sign up and you’ll start receiving free game coupons emailed to you every week (which can serve as a reminder, too!)
And if you have kids older than 16 (not me…yet!), sign up for the $29.95 Summer Pass for 2 free games per day for up to four people (again, shoe rental is extra).
It starts tomorrow (May 14) until Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day). It covers bowling times until 8 p.m. and it is good 7 days a week!
Since it looks like we’ll be heading out to the lanes this summer, what are your bowling tips for playing through the laughter?
Disclosure: I participated in this campaign as a member of One2One Network and am eligible for a prize drawing. All opinions stated in the post are my own.
Today we will celebrate my sister-in-law’s life. One of my favorite quotations from Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, a movie released in 2007, brings me to tears each time:

Today we will celebrate my sister-in-law’s life. One of my favorite quotations from Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, a movie released in 2007, brings me to tears each time:
Edward Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) says to Molly: When King Lear dies in Act V, do you know what Shakespeare has written? He’s written “He dies.” That’s all, nothing more. No fanfare, no metaphor, no brilliant final words. The culmination of the most influential work of dramatic literature is “He dies.” It takes Shakespeare, a genius, to come up with “He dies.” And yet every time I read those two words, I find myself overwhelmed with dysphoria.* And I know it’s only natural to be sad, but not because of the words “He dies.” but because of the life we saw prior to the words.
Claire, the life you lead was beautiful and precious. We will miss you terribly.
* According to Merriam-Webster’s: “a state of feeling unwell or unhappy”
