While away for a couple weeks, my kids and I discovered all sorts of new toys in the gift shops of the Denver museums. For nearly three weeks, I kept my kids busy by visiting museums and, while they loved the exhibits and more, visiting gift shops–it seemed–became their reason for leaving the breakfast table in the mornings.
Somewhere along the way, my 8-year-old discovered Wikki Stix. In the beginning, I was a skeptical mother. It didn’t take long for me to change my tune.
The only way I can describe them is that they are rainbow-colorful pliable, stickable sticks covered in wax. They are bendable and re-bendable. I don’t recommend storing them in your car, particularly in warm climates, but having a stash around the house makes for endless fun, which can then turn into household helpers.
Once the children get bored with Wikki Stix (I’ll let you know if that ever happens!), the manufacturers suggest using Wikki Stix for hard to open jars, as grips for sports equipment, as extension cords to keep them neat or to post reminders on a calendar or wall.
Creativity unleashed! My daughter will play with them, creating stick figures or creating balls or other objects. Then, she will put them away for a few days. Next time she pulls them out, she is creating rainbows or landscapes or intricate people with the multicolored sticks. It’s really amazing all the things she has created with these simple lines of wax.
They have a bunch of other products I’ll be looking into. Wikki Stix are definitely one of the more creative gifts and toys we’ve purchased this year. I plan to order more for an upcoming treat. But, shhhhhh, don’t tell the kids. I might decide to keep them all for myself.

We LOVE Wikki Stix too! I made a step by step video of our solar system project using old golf balls and Wikki Stix. It’s posted on my blog: http://www.shoddyshirtbooks.blogspot.com
