Welcome to the family! Now get to work…

In a response to a TwitterMoms Target contest, asking “What was the most surprising gift you’ve ever received?” I started thinking about creative gift giving.
While I’ve had some great gifts in my life, nothing surprised me more than a gift from my soon-to-be in-laws. Celebrating the holidays in the snowy Virginia mountains a few months before I married, I had all sorts of romantic ideas of what life would be like the following Christmas. Lots of laughter with my soon-to-be in-laws as we gathered around the tree to exchange gifts. My gift was no where to be seen and the family laughed amongst themselves as gifts were passed around.
Finally, mine was brought forth and it was a (drum roll, please) Bucket Boss bucket and tool organizer.
In a few weeks we were to close on our first house. The majority of my in-laws are involved in home decorating or renovations. A creative gift, in a humorous way, my new family let me know what I was embarking upon: renovations and home ownership.
The following year, freshly pregnant and no longer possessive of my bucket and organizer, my husband claimed ownership of the bucket and tool organizer and, 10 years on, he is still continuing with the home renovations.

While it was definitely a surprising gift, it was also creative. What might be one of the most surprising, creative gifts you’ve ever received? Any that you hope to receive this week?
