Brandi Carlile’s new album “Give Up the Ghost” is solid. Initially, I wasn’t blown away by its creativity, until I slowed down and took the time to really listen to it. Other CDs might play in the background of our life’s soundtrack. Carlile’s CD is part of your own life’s soundtrack. This is one you would want to play in the car as you drive to meet your lover a la the movie “The Graduate.” [Disclosure: I don't have a lover, but if I did, I would play Carlile's "Give Up the Ghost" as I drove to meet him.]

One2One Network sent me the album to review and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Carlile’s album is simultaneously familiar and original. I found myself repeatedly listening to her new release trying to pinpoint who she reminded me of and where her jumping off point is for her creative work. A turn of phrase in a lyric might catch in my ear, as she sings it. At times I was reminded of Norah Jones. Other listens took me in another, thoroughly pleasant direction.
And that is the point, Brandi Carlile had me quiet and listening. Again and again.
