Overcoming fear, jumping into creativity

“My tummy is scared, but I’m not,” my 5-year old son said to me while on our way to his first day of swim team.
I loved that he said that.
How many of us let our fear get in the way of creating? Some are fearful of failure, while some might be afraid of success. There are as many fears as there are people who create.
But, just as my son worked to overcome his fears, those who write, paint, draw or are business innovators, need to find their own personal ways to move past a fear that may be keeping them from being their best.
When I write and I am unsure of my next letter or word, I do what my husband calls “dynamic procrastination.” It is my way of dealing with the fear of writing and completing my work. Identifying and knowing that is what I am doing helps to move to the next small step I need to finish my work, creative or otherwise.
And that way I can ignore my scared tummy and move past my fear.
What do you do to move past your fears of creating and jumping in with both feet? Come on, the water is fine!

  1. Nice article. I agree with it totally. We can only overcome our fears when we come face to face with them boldly with courage inside us.
