I’m pretty lucky. For the most part, I keep my kids supplied with Play-Doh and crayons and they don’t interfere with my stuff, like my colored pencils, brushes and paints.
Some days, I’m worded out. After this past week, full of deadlines and interviews for stories, I don’t want to think of creativity in terms of words.
I’ll pick up a book on mandalas and start coloring. I’ll play with pens, scribbling on paper or calling a friend and doodling while I talk (or listen).
Creativity can arise from those moments and breathe new life into my upcoming week. Shifting creative gears can help to energize tired writing projects or enliven a boring document I should be putting some sparkle into.
In terms of what I find reinvigorates my writing, I enjoy: coloring with pencils, painting with watercolors, and doodling with letters and words.
I’d like to add to my arsenal.
What simple activities help to fuel your creativity, renew your flagging spirit and send you back to a sagging project refreshed?
