Comic inspiration?

It is Free Comic Book Day and I loaded the kids up to take advantage of a local shop which passed along four books to each person in line–from my 2-year old to my 40-something self. I admit that I am not a comic book person, but my kids are crazy for them.
As a youth, I was accustomed to walking into a drugstore and finding Archie comics. When I walked into this store, I was astounded and impressed by the depth and breadth of its selection. This was a quick visit (there was a line of impatient parents and kids waiting outside). I plan to return.
I saw a couple things I might pick up, such as those in the how-to section, which I suppose has books that can teach me how to draw and write comics or graphic novels. I’d love to give it a shot.
What about you? Have you ever tried writing or illustrating a comic book? If so, is it something you learned or were you such a big fan you inhaled the skills? Or are you a natural at the drawing and writing needed for creating comics? Please let me know.

  1. Hi Elizabeth. I’m part of the writer’s blogathon too, and just wanted to stop by and say hi.

I have not tried to illustrate a comic book (scary), but I have tried writing a comic book for kids. It’s a great way to tap into your creativity … because you get to think like a kid!
