Full disclosure demands my admission of being an eclectic reader of blogs, until I’m asked to write a post about my five favorite blogs. Then I realize homogeneous my reading habits might be (especially when I discount the sites I read that are devoted to the blogging lives of mothers).

Recently, I culled my e-mails of many subscriptions of blogs I just wasn’t clicking on. Below are listed a selection of some of the blogs coming into my in-box or ones I seek out on a regular basis, particularly in my creativity or writing passions:

1. Right now, while I revise my novel, I find my focus trained on reading literary agent blogs. I’ll dip into Guide to Literary Agents, reading posts about how other writers ensnared their agents or find links to blogs that I will follow and read. Honestly, I wish I’d dipped into agent blogs before. Many provide revision, editing and writing gems.

2. For quite a while, I have followed The Urban Muse: Adventures in reading, writing and the creative life. The title says it all. The Urban Muse is also one of the WordCount Blogathon 2010 sponsors.

3. When I need to dip into regain my creative footing, I seek the wisdom of the Psychology Today creativity blogs. Frequently, I come away from the site having started researching one area only to find a path into another area of creativity I had yet to discover. There is a post right now about the possibilities of writing a novel in two months….

4. I am a contributor to Women on Writing’s The Muffin blog. But even on the days I don’t post, I still hang out there, trying to learn from the other writers. The Muffin is chock-full of good stuff from a wide range of women writers. All sorts of topics and suggestions and helpful hints for writers (male and female!) It’s made my writing life a lot less lonely.

5. For years I’ve followed the Backspace Conference folks. With a focus on writers helping writers, this year I joined their forum and plan to attend a future conference (maybe next year?!). Although I have received e-mail updates about the conference and other activities, I was a lurker for a very long time and hadn’t quite gotten to reading their blog STET!. Now I do. In fact, a recent timely post for Blogathoners: “Things to Think about Re: Blogging” was written by Elana Johnson from the QueryTracker blog (another helpful blog for writers).
