Trying to get inspired about making marketing materials for my upcoming creativity coaching workshops, I ran into a little snag. I had pulled out watercolors to “doodle” with the paint, to get some ideas and just play. Then my children spotted me.
“I need to paint,” my daughter wailed.
Normally a big sharer, I hesitated a little and then relented, letting my daughter dip into my watercolors to appease her artistic needs.
Wishing we could each retreat to separate artist studios, we started to share the paints. The kids asked, as I played and doodled, “What is that?” Suddenly, my painting became more focused on an end result to make something recognizable. I became more frustrated.
But then, my daughter started taking over the paints, descending on them as if she were devouring them. Unfortunately, this led to me calling off her creative time, as well as mine. She completed an ocean scene. I put away the paints. She became dismayed to not be able to put people in her painting; I worried about my marketing materials. We discussed ways she could add the figures without using the paints and came up with a few ideas. I’m still without artwork for my coaching seminars (although I have thought about using her painting).
I love the Creativity for Kids products, which inspire kids to explore their creating. So I entered a contest to help my daughter win some of her own paints, supplied by Creativity for Kids.
I kind of wish they had a parent-child contest. I think I need a Creativity for Kids feather boa for my more inspired, artistic moments. And maybe to warn off any child expecting to share with me…?
